Micro rectangular electrical connector inspection
[ 12-26-2024 ]
The detection methods of micro rectangular electrical connectors mainly include contact resistance test, plugging and unplugging force test, air tightness test, and possibly other performance tests, such as radiation resistance, thermal vacuum outgassing, high-temperature life and overload test (for connectors in specific application environments). The following is a detailed explanation of these detection methods:

1. Contact resistance test
Test principle:
Use a low-level contact resistance test method, such as the Kelvin four-wire method. This method uses two test wires to measure the current at both ends of the connector contact resistance as a constant current, and the current value is not affected by the test wire resistance. The other two test wires detect the voltage at both ends of the connector contact resistance, which will not be affected by the test wire resistance.
Test steps:
Prepare test equipment and samples.
Connect the test wire to the contact end of the micro rectangular electrical connector.
Apply a constant current and record the voltage value.
Calculate the contact resistance according to Ohm's law.
2. Plug-in force test
Test purpose:
A detailed description of the standard plug-in and unplug method of electrical connectors and the required plug-in and unplug force.
Test steps:
Prepare test equipment and matching samples.
Put two electrical connectors that can be crimped to each other in the original position of the mechanical plug-in.
Insert the connector according to the progressive force ratio specified in the specification, and record the peak insertion force.
Pull out the connector with gradually increasing force, and record the pull-out force.
III. Airtightness test
Test principle:
By filling the micro-rectangular electrical connector with gas (such as helium) and detecting whether there is gas leakage outside, its airtightness can be judged.
Test steps (taking the airtightness detection device of the micro-rectangular electrical connector as an example):
Put the micro-rectangular electrical connector to be tested into the product positioning groove position of the positioning plate.
Use the pressure block to press both sides of the micro-rectangular electrical connector to be tested.
Start the airtight machine, press the detection button after the automatic calibration is completed, and start to pump air.
When the airtight machine displays the value that meets the test requirements, spray helium into the pressure block.
Observe the airtight machine display value. If the value remains unchanged or continues to decrease, the product is qualified, otherwise it is judged as defective.
IV. Other performance tests
Anti-radiation test:
The micro-rectangular electrical connector is exposed to a specific dose of radiation, and then its dielectric withstand voltage and insulation resistance are detected to be reduced, and whether the product is damaged.
Thermal vacuum outgassing test:
The sample is placed in a vacuum environment and heated, and then its total weight loss and volatile condensed substances are tested to see if they meet the requirements.
High-temperature life test:
The micro rectangular electrical connector is exposed to a high temperature environment and is tested with a rated current, and then its dielectric withstand voltage, insulation resistance, and whether it can work normally are tested.
Overload test:
Each contact of the micro rectangular electrical connector is passed with a current 1.5 times the rated current, and is disconnected after a certain period of time, and then this process is repeated for a cycle test, and finally the insulation performance and withstand voltage of the product are tested to see if they are reduced.
V. Precautions
Before testing, ensure that the test equipment and samples are fully prepared and meet relevant standards and requirements.
During the test, the operating procedures and safety specifications should be strictly followed to prevent accidents.
For different types of micro rectangular electrical connectors, appropriate test methods and steps should be selected according to their characteristics and requirements.
In summary, the detection methods of micro rectangular electrical connectors include contact resistance test, plug-in force test, air tightness test, and other performance tests. These test methods help ensure the quality and reliability of micro rectangular electrical connectors, thereby meeting the needs of various application scenarios.
