Scope
This standard is applicable to the protection classification of electrical equipment with rated voltage not exceeding 72.5kV and protected by enclosures
The purpose of this standard is as follows:
a) To specify the protection level of the enclosure for electrical equipment:
1) Protection against human contact with hazardous components inside the enclosure 2) Protection against solid foreign objects entering the equipment inside the casing Protection against harmful effects of water entering the casing on equipment B) Identification of protection level C) Requirements for identification of each protection level
d) Conduct verification tests on the casing according to the requirements of this standard The degree and method of quoting the protection level of the casing for various products, as well as the type of casing used, are determined by the product standard. The tests used for specific protection levels should comply with the provisions of this standard. If necessary, supplementary requirements can be added to relevant product standards. Please refer to Appendix B for specific regulations that can be made in the relevant product standards
For special types of equipment, product standards can specify different requirements, but at least the same level of safety must be ensured This standard only considers enclosures that comply with relevant product standards in all aspects. Under normal usage conditions, the materials and processes of the enclosure should ensure that they meet the required level of protection If a certain type of equipment meets the general requirements of the test and the selected protection level is applicable to the type of equipment, then this standard also applies to the empty shell of that type of equipment The protective measures for external influences or environmental conditions such as mechanical damage, rust, corrosive solvents (such as cutting fluids), mold, insect pests, solar radiation, freezing, moisture (such as condensation), explosive gases, etc., as well as preventing contact with hazardous moving parts outside the shell (such as fans), are specified by relevant product standards Bulkheads that are not connected to the casing and barriers specifically designed for personal safety are not considered part of the casing and will not be studied in this standard
