1.1 Scope This standard specifies the most basic safety requirements for ultra low voltage or low voltage plugs and sockets (as defined in 1.4) with a rated current not exceeding 32A for household and similar purposes (For ultra-low voltage plugs and sockets, see Appendix E) This standard does not apply to the following: (a) electrical couplers (see AS/NZS 3109.1) (b) device couplers (see AS/NZS3131:1995 or temporary standard AS/NZS 61535) (c) plugs, sockets, and couplers for industrial purposes (see AS/NZS 3123) (d) plugs and sockets for portable electrical appliances (see AS/NZS 3131) 1.2 Application 1.2.1 General requirements of AS/NZS 3100 standard This standard should be read in conjunction with AS/NZS 3100 standard, The relevant provisions of AS/NZS 3100 standard shall apply to the structure of plugs or sockets, as well as the insulation and safety protection of normal current carrying components. 1.2.2 Special requirements of this standard. If plugs or sockets meet all relevant requirements of this standard and pass the specified tests, they are considered to comply with this standard
